Card fees & limits

The Solid Card is issued by Rain or Wirex depending on your country. Spending limits are balance-based, merchant rules follow network and issuer program rules, and Wirex cardholders can pay euro purchases from a EUR balance with no FX fee.

Who issues your card

The Solid Card is issued by one of our two card program partners, Rain or Wirex, depending on your country of residence. The program is assigned automatically when you order. Limits, merchant rules and terms follow the program that issued your card, so a few details below can vary.

Spending Limits

Your spending limits are:

  • Based on your available card balance or collateral
  • Configurable by Solid per user and per card
  • Dynamically adjustable at any time

Your card spends only its Spendable balance, shown at the top of the card screen. The total balance in the app also counts your Wallet and Savings, which the card does not use until you move that money onto the card.

Limits can be applied across the following intervals:

  • Per transaction
  • Daily (per 24-hour period)
  • Weekly (per 7-day period)
  • Monthly (per 30-day period)
  • Yearly
  • Lifetime

High-value transactions may trigger additional checks:

  • Transactions above ~$250,000 may require verification from Visa
  • Maximum single transaction limit: up to ~$750,000

Fees

In short: getting the card is free, adding money is free, and spending in US dollars is free. The only cost is on purchases in a currency other than USD, where a 1.5% FX cost is built into the exchange rate at every tier: 1% for your card provider (Rain or Wirex) and 0.5% for Solid. Cashback is higher than that at every tier, so you still come out ahead. Wirex cardholders can also pay euro purchases with no conversion and no FX fee at all, from a EUR balance or from soUSD with Credit mode on; see Spending in euros with zero fees below.

Adding money (top-up)

  • Solid top-up fee: 0%. Solid does not take a cut for loading funds: the full amount that reaches your card is available to spend.
  • Minimum card deposit: $10. A deposit under $10 sent to your card goes to your Solid Wallet instead and shows as Sent to Safe. Nothing is lost, but the card can't spend that money until you move it onto the card.
  • External network fees: if you send crypto from another wallet or exchange, that wallet or network may charge its own fee before the funds reach Solid. This is not a Solid fee and is outside our control.

Spending in USD

  • No fee. If a purchase is settled in US dollars, neither your card provider nor Solid charges anything, whatever country the merchant is in.

Spending in another currency

  • 1.5% FX cost, built into the exchange rate. Your card provider (Rain or Wirex) converts the purchase to USD. The rate you receive includes 1% for your card provider and 0.5% for Solid, the same at every tier and on both card programs. Nothing is charged to your balance as a separate line afterwards, which is standard for card issuers.
  • The FX cost depends on the currency of the purchase, not the merchant's location. FX and cross-border fees are mutually exclusive: only one can ever apply to a transaction.

Spending in euros with zero fees (Wirex cards)

  • Way 1: a EUR balance. If your card is issued by Wirex, fund a euro balance with EURC on Base and set Euro as your main currency under Manage card > Main currency (one passkey approval the first time). A euro purchase that your euro balance covers in full is taken one for one in euros: a €15.00 purchase takes €15.00, with no FX fee from anyone. With Euro as main currency, purchases in other currencies are also charged in euros and paid from EURC one for one.
  • Way 2: soUSD with Credit mode. No EURC needed. Hold soUSD in Savings and switch your card to Credit mode: your euro purchases are covered from your soUSD with no FX fee, while your savings keep earning. Credit mode follows its own collateral and borrowing rules shown in the app.
  • Whole purchase or nothing. If your euro balance can't cover the full amount, even by a cent, the whole purchase is paid from your dollar balance at the rate at the time of payment, and the 1.5% FX cost above applies, unless Credit mode is on with enough soUSD, in which case it is covered from your soUSD with no FX fee. One purchase is never split between the two balances.
  • Other currencies depend on your main currency. With US dollar as main currency, a purchase in any other currency is converted by the card network at your provider's rate, FX cost included, exactly as described above. With Euro as main currency, it is charged in euros and paid from your EURC with no FX fee from Solid.
  • Refunds come back in dollars, valued at the rate the purchase was charged at, even if you paid from your euro balance.

Fees Solid covers for you

  • Maintenance fee: none.
  • Cross-border fee: absorbed by Solid, not charged to you.
  • International transaction fee: covered by Solid, not passed through to you.

Why you still come out ahead

Every eligible card purchase earns cashback in USDC: 3% at Core, 4% at Prime and 5% at Ultra, up to your tier's monthly cap. That is more than the 1.5% FX cost at every tier. On a $100 purchase in euros, the FX cost is about $1.50 at every tier, against $3 back at Core, $4 at Prime and $5 at Ultra, so you end up $1.50, $2.50 or $3.50 ahead. On USD purchases there is no FX cost, so the full cashback is yours. Cashback lands in your Savings and starts earning yield right away. See How does Solid Rewards work? for eligibility and monthly caps.

Merchant Rules

The Solid Card can be used at merchants worldwide wherever Visa is accepted, except for restricted categories such as:

  • High-risk merchants
  • Gambling (depending on jurisdiction)
  • Unregulated financial services
  • Prohibited categories under network and compliance rules

Why a payment may be declined

A transaction may fail due to:

  • Insufficient card balance (your Spendable amount, not the total balance shown in the app)
  • Reaching configured limits
  • Merchant category restrictions
  • Security or fraud checks
  • Network-level authorization rules

Additional Safeguards

Certain merchant types may include additional protections.

Example:

  • Gas stations (AFD transactions):
    • Max 2 transactions within a 3-day period
    • Minimum balance check (~$175) before approval
