Spend modes on your Solid card: Cash, Credit and Smart

How your Solid card pays for purchases: Cash (live), Credit (early beta, Wirex cards) and Smart (coming soon).

Your Solid card lets you choose how each purchase is paid. You pick your spend mode from the Spend mode setting on the Solid card screen, and you can switch at any time. The change applies to your next purchases.

Cash: pay from your card balance

Cash works just like a debit card. Every purchase is paid from your card balance, which is the Spendable amount shown on the Solid card screen. Nothing is borrowed and there is nothing to repay. If you haven't changed anything, your card is on Cash.

On Cash, the card does not draw from your Solid Wallet or Savings. To spend money that sits there, move it onto the card first.

Credit: spend without selling your soUSD

With Credit, each card purchase is a small loan backed by your soUSD. Your soUSD stays in your account and keeps earning yield, and you repay the amount you borrowed whenever you want, with no fixed payments.

Who can use it: Wirex card holders only, rolling out gradually. It is not available on Rain cards.
Collateral: soUSD only for now. More assets are coming soon.
Limit and rate: your credit limit depends on the value of your soUSD, and you only pay interest on what you borrow. Both are shown in the app.
Cashback: purchases made with Credit earn cashback at your tier's rate.
Risk: if your borrowed amount gets close to your limit, you'll see an At risk warning. If you don't repay, part of your soUSD may be sold to cover the loan.

Smart is not available yet. We will explain how it works and announce it in the app when it launches.

How to switch modes

Open the Solid app and tap your card on the Wallet screen.
On the Solid card screen, find Spend mode and tap Change.
Choose the mode you want and confirm.

Only the modes available to your account are shown. If you don't see Credit, your account isn't eligible yet.
